Turn Waste Into A Resource!
The Nevada County Master Gardeners are also Master Composters and can help you turn your yard waste, food scraps, animal manures and more into the best soil amendment for your garden. Through the process of aerobic decomposition, organic materials transform into humus. In nature, this process occurs without any help from us, but it can take a long time. We can involve ourselves in the process and speed the process up to recycle our organic waste quickly and produce finished compost in the quantities we want for our gardens.
At spring and fall composting workshops the temperature of a "hot compost" pile is guessed, the winner of which is awarded "Queen or King" of Compost. The August 2019 winner is Dan, King of Compost.
Below, you will find many resources for your composting needs. If you have any composting questions, call the Master Gardeners at 530-273-0919.
