About the Garden
The Master Gardeners of Nevada County have a Demonstration Garden located on the grounds of the Nevada Irrigation District in Grass Valley, 1036 West Main Street (click here for map).
The garden features 1.5 acres with several targeted growing areas, including:
- Foothill Mediterranean Garden
- Cottage Garden
- Rock Garden
- Raised Bed Gardens
- Hoop House
- Oak Habitat and Native Plant Meadow
- Evergreen Edge
- Compost area
This mission of the Demonstration Garden is to demonstrate research-based, sustainable gardening practices for home gardeners with an emphasis on plant communities, best suited to the microclimates and
soils found in the Sierra Nevada foothills. We support regional biodiversity, conservation of resources and composting to promote healthy soil life.

Special Events at the Demo Garden
The 2022 Spring Plant Sale at the Demonstration Garden!
Saturday, May 7, 2022 9 am to noon
Plants were for sale, including flowering annuals, dahlias and cosmos, perennial flowers, shrubs, grasses, ground covers and Nevada County milkweed. Vegetables this year included an estimated 30 varieties of tomatoes, plus peppers, squash, melons, cucumbers, eggplants, herbs, and more!
